About Bernie
Bernard Corace
Owner Dirty Hoe Landscaping
My experience in horticulture began early—my mother liked to say that she had children in order to have little hands for pulling weeds. I spent my early adulthood studying history and philosophy in my home state of Michigan. But what I learned most from my college years was that I am ill-suited to work indoors. So after a collection of odd jobs from sailor and horse-handler to truck driver to bike messenger, I happily found my way back to the garden.
Spending so much time with plants, I am continually amazed and surprised by the intelligence flora and its intricate relationship with their surroundings. Each garden is its own classroom making my job both humbling and rewarding. I try to bring this understanding to all of our garden design and care.
When I am not working I can be found exploring our city and state by car, bike or foot. Lately, though, I can just as often be found puttering around my own garden while hanging out with my chickens.
